A beautiful vintage ring by Ostby & Barton, crafted in 10K yellow gold and set with a rich purple faceted glass stone. The rectangular center stone has clipped corners and broad geometric facets, showing shades from deep plum to brighter violet as it catches the light.
The setting has wonderful period character, with softly sculpted floral and foliate details surrounding the stone and continuing onto the shoulders. The decorative goldwork gives the ring a romantic appearance while the strong rectangular center keeps the design beautifully balanced.
The interior of the band is marked O.B. 10K for Ostby & Barton.
Ostby & Barton was an American jewelry manufacturer founded in Providence, Rhode Island, in the late 19th century. The company became a prolific manufacturer of gold rings and other jewelry, and its pieces are still recognized by collectors by the distinctive O.B. maker's mark.
The company also has an extraordinary connection to the Titanic. Engelhart Ostby was a passenger aboard the ship with his daughter Helene while returning from a trip to Europe in 1912. Helene survived the sinking, while her father tragically did not. Ostby & Barton continued producing jewelry after his death, leaving behind a fascinating chapter in American jewelry history.
